Things to do in Belem

Belem is a old quarter of Lisbon, when Portugal witness the empire Golden Age , ships were sent from Belem on long trips to discover and conquer new lands. The quarter is situated at the mouth of the Tagus River , near Santa Maria de Belem, southwest of Lisbon.
In 1495, when King Manuel the first ascended the throne , he wanted to reflect its expansion and he created magnificent monuments and churches. Two of best examples of that era, are the Monastery of Jeronimos and the Belém Tower.
